This course introduces the principles and practical operation of computer networks. Students learn how data travels across transmission media, how network models and protocols organize communication, and how devices such as switches, routers and access points connect users and services. Guided labs cover cabling, IP configuration, subnetting fundamentals, local-area networking, wireless security, common network services and systematic troubleshooting.
Learning Outcomes
• Describe the components and characteristics of data communication systems.
• Explain common network topologies, models, protocols and transmission media.
• Identify and configure basic network devices and end-user connections.
• Apply IPv4 addressing and introductory subnetting to small networks.
• Set up and secure a basic wired or wireless local-area network.
• Use standard commands and tools to diagnose common connectivity problems.
