Course Overview

This course introduces the principles and procedures used to record and report financial transactions. Learners apply the accounting equation and double-entry system, prepare journals and ledgers, balance accounts, manage cash and bank records, make period-end adjustments and produce basic financial statements. Spreadsheet activities connect accounting concepts with practical digital record keeping for small businesses and organizations.

Learning Outcomes

• Explain the purpose, users, assumptions and basic principles of financial accounting.
• Apply the accounting equation and double-entry rules to routine transactions.
• Record transactions in journals and post them accurately to ledger accounts.
• Prepare a trial balance and identify common recording and posting errors.
• Complete basic adjustments and prepare income statement and statement of financial position.
• Use spreadsheets to organize, calculate and present accounting information.
